Commenting on the Autumn Statement by the Chancellor today, Claire Haigh, Chief Executive of Greener Journeys said:
“George Osborne’s focus on infrastructure is welcome, we know that UK businesses see poor transport and infrastructure connections as a constraint on growth, and that nearly a third of UK businesses would like to see better transport links.
“However we continue to call on the government to prioritise funding for bus services which can quickly and cheaply reach areas that rail and other infrastructure links cannot.
“More people commute to work by bus than all other public transport combined; and bus commuters already generate over £64 billion of economic output.
“This output could increase if we improve connectivity for UK businesses and allow them to draw on a wider pool of employees through cheap and reliable bus routes and connections.
“Read our five-point plan for growth to learn more about why this is a key issue for government and what can be done.”
